Avoid Delays: Lane Closures on I-95 for Bridge Repairs in Philadelphia

Traffic Advisory

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that regional bridge repairs will continue next week on northbound Interstate 95 in Philadelphia under a $44.6 million bridge improvement project to perform high-priority repairs on several structures on interstates in Philadelphia, Delaware and Bucks counties.

The work schedules and locations are:

  • Monday, August 14, and Tuesday, August 15, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, lane closures are scheduled on northbound I-95 between the Interstate 676 and Girard Avenue interchanges for expansion joint repair at Laurel Street;
  • Wednesday, August 16, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane closures are scheduled on the ramp from southbound I-476 to northbound I-95 for highway lighting repair; and
  • Thursday, August 17, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane closures are scheduled on northbound I-95 from the Broad Street Interchange (Route 611) to the Walt Whitman Bridge/Packer Avenue Interchange (I-76 East) for bridge railing repair.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

This project involves repairing various structural components including rocker bearings, frozen sliding plate bearings, and deck expansion joints. It also includes the replacement of high mast light poles along the I-95 corridor in Philadelphia and Delaware counties.

Driscoll Construction Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
