NEW CASTLE, DE — New Castle County is set to host an exciting literary event featuring the esteemed author, Thi Bui. The author of the highly acclaimed memoir, “The Best We Could Do,” will be sharing her family’s compelling journey at the John Dickinson School on February 22 at 7 p.m. The event, announced by County Executive Matt Meyer and New Castle County Libraries, is free and open to all.
Born in Vietnam and part of the wave of refugees known as the “boat people,” Bui’s memoir has garnered widespread acclaim for its authentic depiction of the challenges her family faced before, during, and after the Vietnam War. The memoir has been recognized with an American Book Award, listed as a National Book Critics Circle finalist in autobiography, nominated for an Eisner Award in reality-based comics, and has appeared on over thirty best-of-2017 book lists, including Bill Gates’ top five picks.
This special event presents a unique opportunity for residents of New Castle County to engage directly with the author. Attendees will gain insights into her work and the historical context it encapsulates. Copies of “The Best We Could Do” will be available at the event while supplies last.
County Executive Matthew Meyer expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming event, stating, “Numerous people across the county have read and discussed Bui’s memoir and participated in related programs.
