$460,000 State Grant Boosts Streambank Stabilization in Bristol Borough

Funds

BRISTOL, PA — A significant investment of $460,000 in state funds has been allocated for a critical streambank stabilization project in Bristol Borough. The announcement was made on Tuesday by Senator Steve Santarsiero (D-10) and Representative Tina Davis (D-141). The funding, facilitated through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), will be used to design and construct stabilization measures along Adams Hollow Creek between North Cedar Street and Radcliffe Street.

“Restoring the streambank is critical to preserving the natural landscape and protecting the residential dwellings in the surrounding area,” said Senator Santarsiero. “These funds will enable Bristol Borough to mitigate future damage from flooding, keeping the borough a desirable place for economic growth and development.”

The project is of particular importance given the proximity of businesses to Adams Hollow Creek. Representative Davis emphasized this point, stating, “Preventing flooding through the Adams Hollow Creek project is important for the economic status of Bristol Borough as many businesses are within close proximity to the creek. This grant is important toward moving this project forward.”

The funding falls under DCED’s Flood Mitigation Program, which supports projects authorized by a flood protection authority, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) or the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) or identified by a local government for flood mitigation.

The investment in streambank stabilization serves multiple purposes. It not only protects the natural environment but also safeguards properties and businesses from the destructive impact of flooding. By doing so, it contributes to maintaining Bristol Borough’s appeal for both residents and businesses.

Flooding can cause extensive damage to infrastructure, homes, and businesses, leading to significant economic losses. Effective flood mitigation efforts, such as the planned streambank stabilization, can help to minimize these risks, providing a safer environment for the community and a more secure landscape for economic activity.

Moreover, preserving and enhancing natural landscapes is a crucial aspect of environmental stewardship. Healthy streambanks help maintain water quality, support diverse ecosystems, and contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal of the area.

As Bristol Borough moves forward with this project, it provides a tangible example of how strategic investment in environmental infrastructure can yield significant benefits for both community safety and economic stability. Such initiatives are pivotal in building resilient communities that can withstand the impacts of extreme weather events while also fostering sustainable growth.
