PHILADELPHIA, PA — The winners of the 2025 Next Generation Short Story Awards were unveiled, celebrating exceptional short fiction from authors across the globe. Organized by the Next Generation Indie Book Awards, the program honors outstanding original short stories written in English and provides a platform for indie authors to receive wide recognition.
This year’s Grand Prize winners demonstrated remarkable creativity and storytelling prowess. Robert Wright claimed first place and a $500 prize for Grooves and Blisters. Second place and a $300 prize went to Three Cheers for Emilio! by Elizabeth Weiss Vollstadt, while Anne Freeman secured third place and a $200 prize with her story, Honeybee and the Sting of Love.
The awards, which accept submissions of short stories under 5,000 words from writers worldwide, are judged by a distinguished panel comprising literary professionals, acclaimed authors, publishing executives, and writing educators. These experts evaluate entries to identify stories deserving of greater exposure and acclaim.
Beyond the Grand Prizes, winners in over 30 categories receive Gold Medals, $75 cash prizes, and promotional opportunities, including a year of literary exposure on the awards’ website, social media coverage, and digital gold stickers for their marketing materials.
The celebrated winners will be honored during the Next Generation Indie Book Awards Gala on Friday, June 27, at The Notary Hotel in Philadelphia, PA. This event promises to highlight the exceptional contributions of indie authors to the literary landscape and provide them with invaluable recognition.
