HARRISBURG, PA — The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has disclosed that Porfirio Peralta-Nunez, 45, from York, PA, faces federal charges related to drug trafficking, following an indictment by a federal grand jury.

U.S. Attorney Gerard Karam detailed that the indictment accuses Peralta-Nunez of participating in a conspiracy to distribute cocaine within York County from November 2022 to October 2023. Specifically, on October 23, 2023, Peralta-Nunez allegedly had possession of five kilograms or more of cocaine, purportedly with the intention to distribute the substance.

The investigation leading to the indictment was a collaborative effort between the York County Drug Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Agency, and the York City Police Department, highlighting the concerted approach by law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking.

Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Monroe is assigned to prosecute the case, which forms part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN). PSN is a nationwide initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through partnerships between various levels of law enforcement and community organizations. This strategy, revitalized on May 26, 2021, emphasizes building trust within communities, supporting preventative measures against violence, focusing on strategic enforcement priorities, and evaluating the outcomes of these efforts.

If convicted, Peralta-Nunez faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment, a potential five-year term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine up to $10,000,000. Additionally, a period of supervised release is mandated for each offense after incarceration.

It is essential to remember that indictments and criminal informations are formal charges and not evidence of guilt. Porfirio Peralta-Nunez, like any individual charged with a crime, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
