SCRANTON, PA — Michael William Wright, a 30-year-old resident of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to 18 months in prison on December 13, 2023. The sentencing was directed by United States District Court Judge Malachy E. Mannion for violating the terms of his federal supervision. Wright had previously committed the crime of using or carrying a firearm during a drug trafficking felony.

According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, Wright violated his supervision terms through the possession and use of controlled substances. Additionally, he was involved in an incident in Williamsport on October 7, 2023, that resulted in his arrest for domestic violence assault.

Wright had been under the supervision of the United States Probation Office. Assistant United States Attorneys Geoffrey MacArthur and Luisa Honora Berti were responsible for prosecuting the case.

The maximum penalty under federal law for this type of supervised release violation is five years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. The judge determines a sentence after a finding of guilt, considering the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
