SCRANTON, PA — Dexter Yard, a 36-year-old resident of Wilkes-Barre in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, has pleaded guilty to distributing fentanyl and cocaine. The plea was entered on March 8, 2024, before U.S. District Court Judge Robert D. Mariani.

United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam revealed that Yard admitted to distributing the potent narcotics to another individual in Luzerne County on August 17, 2021. This charge arose from an incident where members of the Wilkes-Barre Police Department and the Pennsylvania State Police successfully purchased fentanyl and cocaine from Yard, leading to his immediate arrest.

Upon searching the vehicle Yard was driving at the time, authorities discovered a fully loaded .38 caliber handgun, drug paraphernalia, and the money police had used to buy the drugs from Yard.

The case against Yard is the result of a concerted investigation by the Wilkes-Barre Police Department, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. Assistant United States Attorney Robert J. O’Hara is spearheading the prosecution.

Under federal law, Yard could face a maximum sentence of twenty years, along with a term of supervised release and a hefty fine. The final sentence will be determined by the Judge after considering the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
