SCRANTON, PA — Darius Jamal Scott, a 46-year-old man from Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 72 months in prison by United States District Judge Robert D. Mariani on December 7, 2023. The sentence will be followed by a four-year period of supervised release for trafficking heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine.

According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, Scott conspired with others to distribute over 40 grams of a mixture of heroin and fentanyl, as well as over 100 grams of cocaine in Tobyhanna and surrounding areas in Monroe County, PA, from April 2022 until June 15, 2022. Scott was on state parole for a prior handgun offense at the time he committed this federal narcotics offense.

Judge Mariani ordered that Scott’s 72-month federal sentence run consecutively to the 24-month sentence that Scott received for his parole violation.

Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Philadelphia, William S. Walker, said, “This investigation demonstrates HSI’s commitment to identifying recidivists that peddle poison and prey on the vulnerable.” He added that HSI would use every resource and partnership, particularly their collaboration with the PA Office of the Attorney General – Bureau of Narcotics Investigations, to rid communities of drug traffickers.

The case was investigated by HSI and the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigations (BNI). Assistant United States Attorney Jeffery St John prosecuted the case.
