HARRISBURG, PA — Attorney General Michelle Henry announced that a Luzerne County man was sentenced to at least 16 years in prison for repeated sexual assaults of an eight-year-old child.
A jury convicted 60-year-old Charles Zambri last year of felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, endangering the welfare of children, and corruption of minors.
On Tuesday, a Luzerne County Judge sentenced Zambri to 16 to 32 years in prison. The judge also deemed Zambri a sexually violent predator, and he will have to register his whereabouts with police for the rest of his life.
“The defendant will spend at least the next 16 years in prison for subjecting an innocent child to horrific abuse over and over again,” Attorney General Henry said. “Protecting children is one of the most important duties we have, and my office will do everything we can to remove dangerous predators, like this defendant, from society. That responsibility to protect children extends to everyone. If you know about abuse, come forward and report it.”
The incidents happened between 2016 and 2018, when Zambri was babysitting the child at his Wilkes-Barre home.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Deputy Attorney General Joseph M. Sembrot and Senior Deputy Attorney General Kristyne Crist.
