PENNSYLVANIA — The Pennsylvania Departments of Revenue and Aging are reminding residents that they have until Sunday, December 31, 2023, to apply for rebates on property taxes and rent paid in 2022. The rebates are available through the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program, which benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with disabilities age 18 and older.

Eligible applicants can apply online via mypath.pa.gov to ensure their applications are filed before the deadline. Secretary of Revenue Pat Browne stated, “This program is a lifeline every year for hundreds of thousands of people and helps many of them to stay in the comfort of their homes.”

How to Apply

Applications can be submitted through myPATH without the need for an account. This platform provides instant confirmation of successful filing, automatic calculators, and other helpful features. Paper applications can also be downloaded for those who prefer traditional methods. All applications must be postmarked by December 31, 2023.

Applicants who have already filed do not need to take further action and can check the status of their rebate using the ‘Where’s My Rebate?‘ tool on the website.

About the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program

Since its launch in 1971, the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program has provided over $8 billion in property tax and rent relief to some of Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable citizens. The program is supported by the Pennsylvania Lottery and receives funding from gaming.

From next year, the program will be expanded to include nearly 175,000 additional Pennsylvanians and the maximum standard rebate will be increased to $1,000 (up from $650). This expansion is a result of a recently signed law by Governor Josh Shapiro, reflecting his stated commitment to easing the burden of rising costs for Pennsylvania seniors, widows and widowers, and people with disabilities.

Applicants must reapply for rebates each year as they are based on annual income and property taxes or rent paid. Applying for a rebate is free, and assistance is available at various locations across the state. More details about the program and its income limits can be found on the Department of Revenue’s website.
