PITTSBURGH, PA — Isaac Akwasi Duku Jr., a 23-year-old resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 34 months in prison for violating federal firearms laws. The sentencing, which will be followed by three years of supervised release, was announced on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, by United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan.

Chief United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak handed down the sentence. Duku Jr. has several prior convictions for firearm offenses, some of which are linked to drugs and indications of drug trafficking.

On May 28, 2022, Duku Jr. was found unlawfully possessing a privately made .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol. The firearm, loaded with an extended magazine and 20 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition, was spotted on Pittsburgh’s North Side city surveillance system. Law enforcement located the pistol and ammunition near Duku Jr. shortly after. Federal law prohibits convicted felons from possessing ammunition.

Assistant United States Attorney Carl J. Spindler prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The investigation leading to the indictment was conducted by the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
