Pittsburgh Resident Pleads Guilty to Federal Firearm Violations

Court News

PITTSBURGH, PA — A 21-year-old Pittsburgh resident, Raesean M. Wilson, has pleaded guilty to two federal firearm violations. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan on Thursday, December 14, 2023.

Wilson’s legal troubles began in March 2022 when he was convicted of being a person not to possess firearms, a felony offense, in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. His situation took a turn for the worse in September of the same year. The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police caught Wilson with a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol and an extended magazine carrying 30 rounds of ammunition in the Northview Heights community in Pittsburgh’s Northside neighborhood. As a convicted felon, Wilson is prohibited by federal law from possessing ammunition.

The incident led to an indictment by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on January 3, 2023, resulting in a warrant for Wilson’s arrest. However, this did not deter Wilson from repeating his violation. On January 26, 2023, Pennsylvania State Troopers stopped him for a moving traffic violation in downtown Pittsburgh. They found him in possession of a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol loaded with an extended magazine and 23 rounds of ammunition.

Following this second offense, a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh indicted Wilson again on February 28, 2023. Wilson now faces a maximum total sentence of up to 15 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both, depending on the seriousness of the offenses and his prior criminal history.

Assistant United States Attorney Carl J. Spindler prosecuted the case. The investigation was conducted by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
