PITTSBURGH, PA — A 35-year-old Pittsburgh resident, Allen Gregory Edmonds, has pleaded guilty to serious drug and firearm violations. The revelations came to light in federal court on February 8, 2024.

United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced that Edmonds admitted guilt to one count of possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine and one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. The pleas were entered before United States Senior District Judge Nora Barry Fischer.

The court was informed that law enforcement had executed federal search warrants on Edmonds, his vehicle, and his associated properties on December 19, 2023. What they discovered was chilling. Within Edmonds’ Pittsburgh residence, investigators found a backpack filled with approximately two kilograms of cocaine, a Schedule II controlled substance. Adding to this grim discovery, a loaded handgun was found in the closet of Edmonds’ bedroom. The serial number check revealed the weapon had been reported as stolen.

At the time of these discoveries, Edmonds was already a convicted felon, having been found guilty of both a felony drug trafficking offense and a felony firearm offense in the Court of Common Pleas in Allegheny County. Federal law strictly prohibits possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon, further compounding Edmonds’ legal troubles.

Judge Fischer has scheduled sentencing for May 7, 2024. The penalties that Edmonds faces are severe. The drug charge carries a sentence of not less than five years and up to 40 years in prison, a fine of up to $5 million, or both. The firearm charge could result in up to 15 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both.

Assistant United States Attorney Brendan J. McKenna is leading the prosecution in this case.

The successful prosecution of Edmonds is the result of diligent work by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Pennsylvania State Police. Their efforts have ensured that another dangerous individual is removed from Pittsburgh’s streets.
