HARRISBURG, PA — State Treasurer Stacy Garrity, joined by several legislators, announced that the second round of Pennsylvania Money Match payments, totaling $9.2 million, has been distributed. The innovative program automatically returns unclaimed property to rightful owners, benefitting more than 39,000 Pennsylvanians in this latest wave.
Pennsylvania Money Match, unanimously approved by the state legislature and signed into law last year, simplifies the process of reuniting residents with dormant funds, such as old bank accounts, uncashed checks, and insurance payouts. The program focuses on property valued at up to $500 that contains a single owner, ensuring funds are sent directly after a thorough verification process.
“It’s exciting to see so many people getting money they didn’t know they had,” said Treasurer Stacy Garrity. “We want everyone to know this is a real program and this is real money. Every dollar we return to Pennsylvania families is money they can use to buy groceries, fill up their cars, or pay their rent or mortgage. This money belongs to them, not the state.”
Since the program’s inception, Pennsylvania Money Match has returned more than $10 million and plans to distribute $30 million by the end of 2025. To date, Treasurer Garrity’s office has successfully returned over $900 million in unclaimed property.
Senator Frank Farry (R-6) praised the program’s efficiency, emphasizing the local impact. “We sent postcards to more than 700 residents in my district notifying them they had unclaimed property, and I’m thrilled to share that these efforts from the Money Match program have already led to more than $170,000 being returned. This program makes it easier than ever for Pennsylvanians to reclaim what’s rightfully theirs.”
Echoing his support, Representative Ryan Bizzarro (D-3) called attention to the initiative’s broader implications for the state’s residents. “Pennsylvania is doing right by its workers and taxpayers by automatically returning unclaimed property. Anytime we can cut red tape and return money directly to taxpayers is a reason to celebrate. I’m working with my House and Senate colleagues to expand this initiative and return even more money to the people of our commonwealth.”
Treasury officials also highlighted plans for a third round of checks, scheduled for August, as well as proposed legislation to increase the current $500 threshold, which could pave the way for even greater impacts.
With more than $5 billion in unclaimed property still waiting to be returned, Pennsylvania Money Match continues working toward its mission of reuniting residents with their rightful assets, making a significant difference in countless lives across the commonwealth.
