Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation

PENNSYLVANIA — The Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation (PPFF) has announced that it is now accepting nominations for its prestigious 2024 Annual Parks and Forests Awards. These awards aim to honor the noteworthy programs, services, staff, and volunteers who have significantly contributed to the state’s parks and forests.

Founded with the vision of promoting stewardship through volunteerism and education, the PPFF’s annual awards are a testament to those who are dedicated to preserving and enriching our state’s natural resources. The awards also highlight efforts to create an inclusive environment in outdoor spaces and safeguard public lands for future generations.

Nominations can be submitted until December 15th via the PPFF website. Following the submission deadline, a panel comprising PPFF Board members and special guests will review the nominations. The winners will be announced in May, with award ceremony details to be confirmed later.

The categories open for public nomination include:

  • Park of the Year: Recognizing a park’s outstanding work in areas such as customer service, education, programming or recreation, stewardship of natural, cultural or historic assets, and/or accommodation of visitors’ special needs.
  • Forest of the Year: Honoring a forest district for its innovative and exemplary work in forest management and recreation, which includes providing low-density recreational opportunities, ensuring public safety, and effectively utilizing volunteers.
  • Volunteerism Awards: Up to three awards are given per year to individuals, volunteer groups, or PPFF chapters that have made a lasting positive impact on the park or forest they serve.
Young Volunteer of the Year: Celebrating a person under the age of 25 who has made a significant contribution to a park or forest.

In addition to the above, the PPFF Board will present awards in several categories not open for public nomination. These include the Cliff Jones Keystone Legacy Award, the Joseph Ibberson Government Award, and the President’s Award.
