HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission (PHMC) and the Pennsylvania State Historical Records Advisory Board (SHRAB) have announced that applications for the Historical and Archival Records Care (HARC) grant program are now being accepted. Eligible organizations have until August 1, 2025, to apply for funding aimed at preserving and managing Pennsylvania’s significant historical records.
The HARC program provides financial support to a range of historical records repositories, including local governments, historical societies, libraries, universities, and school districts. Grants can be used for various activities, such as surveying, inventorying, arranging, preserving, and digitizing historical records. The funding also covers the purchase of equipment like digitization tools but does not extend to works of art, textiles, artifacts, or museum objects.
Individual grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded, and no matching funds are required. The funding is made available through the PHMC, with applications assessed by a SHRAB sub-committee. The program’s objective is to ensure the preservation and accessibility of crucial historical documents across the Commonwealth.
Applicants must submit their proposals through the web-based eGrant application system. To guide prospective participants, the PHMC will host two webinars on May 13 at 10 a.m. and June 17 at 1 p.m. These sessions will provide an overview of the program’s guidelines, eligibility requirements, and practical advice for crafting a strong application. Interested individuals can register through the grant webpage or by contacting the grant manager at ra-pharchivesgrants@pa.gov.
The SHRAB, supported by federal regulations under the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC), continues to oversee historical records planning and advisory efforts within Pennsylvania. This grant program reinforces its mission to protect Pennsylvania’s rich historical legacy for future generations.
