HARRISBURG, PA — The Republican Party of Pennsylvania has formally endorsed State Treasurer Stacy Garrity as its candidate for governor in 2026, a move party leaders say reflects growing unity behind her campaign to unseat Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro.

The endorsement was approved at the GOP’s fall State Committee meeting, where members voted to back Garrity ahead of what is expected to be a high-profile gubernatorial contest.

“Stacy Garrity represents the very best of Pennsylvania,” Republican State Committee Chairman Greg Rothman said. “She is a proven leader with a record of service, integrity, and results. As State Treasurer, Stacy has fought to protect taxpayers, bring accountability to Harrisburg, and ensure fiscal responsibility. We are proud to endorse her campaign for governor and we are confident she will lead Pennsylvania with the same dedication she has shown throughout her career in public service, the private sector, and the military.”

Garrity, a retired Army Reserve colonel and business executive, was elected treasurer in 2020. Since taking office, she has emphasized fiscal transparency and taxpayer protection. Republicans said her track record in office and her military background made her the strongest candidate to challenge Shapiro, who is seeking a second term.

Party officials said the endorsement consolidates GOP support behind Garrity and adds momentum to a campaign they described as already gaining strength. The committee framed her candidacy as offering “conservative, common sense leadership that Pennsylvania families need and deserve.”

The governor’s race is expected to draw national attention and heavy spending as both parties gear up for a competitive 2026 election cycle.
