HARRISBURG, PA — Pennsylvania’s gaming industry achieved a historic milestone in May 2025, with combined revenue from all forms of gaming and fantasy contests exceeding $600 million for the first time. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) reported total revenue of $601,833,369, a 15.52% increase over May 2024.
This record-breaking performance generated $255,136,529 in tax revenue for the Commonwealth.
Revenue by Gaming Category
Slot Machines:
Retail slot machines accounted for $224,873,947 in revenue, marking a 5.02% rise from May 2024. The number of machines in operation slightly declined to 24,347, compared to 24,862 last year. Slot machine play contributed $113,691,165 in tax revenue.
iGaming:
Internet-based casino gaming continues to surge, generating $232,853,763 in revenue for May 2025, a significant 33.76% increase year-over-year. Tax revenue from iGaming reached $104,581,484.
Sports Wagering:
May’s total sports wagering handle grew to $655,358,227, up 10.72% from May 2024. Taxable sports wagering revenue jumped 34.39%, totaling $59,417,240 and yielding $21,390,206 in tax revenue.
Retail Table Games:
Revenue from retail table games fell slightly to $79,915,903, a 4.55% decrease compared to May 2024. Table games generated $13,394,878 in tax revenue.
Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs):
Revenue from VGTs remained relatively stable at $3,683,566, down just 0.08% from the prior year. Tax revenue totaled $1,915,454.
Fantasy Contests:
Fantasy contest revenue declined by 5.35% year-over-year to $1,088,950, contributing $163,342 in tax revenue.
The PGCB’s latest figures highlight the robust growth of Pennsylvania’s gaming industry, driven particularly by strong performances in iGaming and sports wagering. May 2025 marks a pivotal moment in establishing the Commonwealth as a leading gaming market in the United States.
