COLLEGEVILLE, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections (DOC) is set to host a job fair aimed at bolstering its workforce at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) Phoenix. The event, scheduled for May 14 and 15, 2024, at 1200 Mokychic Drive in Collegeville seeks to fill numerous roles, including corrections officer trainees, among other positions across various fields.

In an innovative move to attract more candidates, the DOC has recently adjusted the minimum age requirement for corrections officer trainee roles from 21 to 18 years old. This change is anticipated to widen the pool of eligible applicants and tap into a younger demographic eager to start their careers in law enforcement and corrections.

Further broadening its recruitment reach, the DOC has also secured a waiver for the Pennsylvania residency requirement for corrections officer positions across all 24 state correctional institutions. This strategic adjustment allows for the recruitment of prospective corrections officers from neighboring states, significantly expanding the potential workforce.

The two-day event at SCI Phoenix promises a no-hassle experience for job seekers. No prior appointment or registration is necessary, although attendees should prepare for a security screening upon arrival and are reminded that drugs and weapons are strictly prohibited on the premises. Potential applicants are encouraged to explore open positions and apply online before attending the fair.

Prospective corrections officer trainees will have the opportunity for onsite interviews during the job fair. Applicants are advised to bring two forms of identification to participate in the interview process.

Employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, including roles within the DOC, comes with competitive pay, generous time off, retirement benefits, and a comprehensive benefits package.
