HARRISBURG, PA — In celebration of National Children’s Dental Health Month (NCDHM) this February, the Pennsylvania Dental Association (PDA) is calling on all third-graders across Pennsylvania to put their artistic skills to work. The PDA’s poster contest, themed “Healthy Habits for Healthy Smiles,” invites students to create vibrant and informative posters showcasing the importance of good oral hygiene.
The American Dental Association (ADA), which sponsors NCDHM, emphasizes that establishing healthy habits at a young age is crucial for maintaining oral health throughout life. This annual event brings together dental professionals, healthcare providers, and educators to promote the benefits of good oral health to children, their caregivers, and others.
“The attitudes and habits established early in life are critical in maintaining good oral health throughout life,” said Dr. Sam Mansour of Erie, PDA’s statewide NCDHM chair. “Our members have consistently prioritized children’s dental health, and we look forward to engaging with future generations to make NCDHM 2024 a resounding success.”
Participation in the PDA’s poster contest isn’t just an opportunity for students to showcase their creativity; it also offers a chance to win exciting prizes. The first-place winner will be awarded $500, with their school and teacher each receiving a $250 prize. The second-place winner will receive $250, while the third-place winner will receive $100.
To support teachers and students, PDA provides classroom resources, including a lesson plan featuring dental health information, classroom activities, and fun worksheets. These materials, along with the contest rules, are distributed electronically. For more information, contact Zsofia Kandrot at zlk@padental.org or visit padental.org/NCDHM. Complimentary NCDHM posters are also available by request.
The deadline for poster contest entries is Friday, March 1. Entries should be mailed to the Pennsylvania Dental Association, Attn: NCDHM Poster Contest, 3501 N. Front Street, Harrisburg, PA 17110. The top three winners will be announced in early April.
This contest presents a fantastic opportunity for Pennsylvania’s third-graders to learn more about dental health while showcasing their artistic talents. Let’s help make NCDHM 2024 a huge success and keep our children’s smiles beautiful now and for years to come!
