Pennsylvania Car Rental Manager Pleads Guilty to Fraud, Identity Theft

Court News

PITTSBURGH, PA — Jackie Lynn Neubauer, a 41-year-old resident of Youngwood, Pennsylvania, admitted guilt to serious charges of access device fraud and aggravated identity theft in federal court on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. This acknowledgment came before United States District Judge Marilyn J. Horan, marking a significant turn in a complex investigation into fraudulent activities centered around a car rental operation.

Neubauer, who held the position of manager at the car rental location, engaged in a deceptive scheme where she processed car rental transactions using credit card numbers that were obtained illicitly from various conspirators. This act of fraud was not incidental but rather systemic, involving more than 140 vehicles and resulting in financial losses exceeding $500,000. By presenting these transactions as legitimate, Neubauer exploited the trust inherent in financial operations, causing significant harm to individuals and financial institutions alike.

The sentencing, set for July 31, 2024, by Judge Horan, could result in Neubauer facing a substantial period of incarceration. The law under which she was charged stipulates a maximum total sentence ranging from a mandatory minimum of two years to as much as 12 years in prison, alongside a possible fine of up to $500,000. The determination of the actual sentence will consider the gravity of Neubauer’s offenses and any previous criminal history.

This case, prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway, highlights the critical importance of vigilance and integrity in managing financial transactions. The investigation, spearheaded by the United States Secret Service, spotlights the sophisticated methods employed by individuals attempting to undermine financial systems for personal gain.
