Pennsylvania Attorney General Secures Settlement Against Vantage Travel Services

Office of the Attorney General

HARRISBURG, PA — Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry announced this week a significant breakthrough in ongoing litigation with Vantage Travel Services, Inc., subject to court approval. The settlement comes after the Office of Attorney General filed a lawsuit against the travel company and its sole owner, Henry Lewis, alleging deceptive and unfair business practices.

In 2023, Vantage Travel Services was accused of promoting “risk-free” travel to consumers who ultimately did not receive their trips or a full cash refund from the company. Following these allegations, Vantage filed for bankruptcy, claiming minimal assets and more than $100 million in liabilities to consumers nationwide.

As part of the bankruptcy proceedings, Vantage and Lewis sought to temporarily halt the Office of Attorney General’s litigation against them. However, this recent settlement only resolves the litigation pertaining to Vantage Travel, leaving the case against owner Henry Lewis still pending.

The settlement agreement aims to bring closure to both legal proceedings as they relate to Vantage. Through this agreement, the Office of Attorney General is pushing for a final order that would permanently prevent Vantage from operating future tour services in Pennsylvania.

Attorney General Henry stated, “Vantage exploited Pennsylvanians by holding their refunds hostage. If Pennsylvania consumers pay for goods or services and get nothing in return, our office will fight for those victims.”

This case serves as a reminder of the potential pitfalls consumers face when dealing with travel companies, especially during uncertain times. It highlights the importance of consumer protection laws and the role of the Attorney General’s office in enforcing them.

Consumers who believe they may have fallen victim to such practices are encouraged to file a complaint with the Bureau of Consumer Protection. This can be done by calling 800-441-2555, or emailing scams@attorneygeneral.gov.

The litigation against Vantage Travel Services has been overseen by Deputy Attorney General Kevin R. Green. The settlement marks a significant step towards justice for affected consumers and sends a strong message to businesses about the consequences of unfair trade practices.
