SCRANTON, PA — Robert Luksh, a 64-year-old electrician from Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to criminal tax evasion on December 13, 2023. The plea was before United States District Court Judge Malachy E. Mannion.

According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, the charges against Luksh allege that he operated his business, Luksh Electric, in cash during 2019 and 2020. This method of operation was a deliberate attempt to evade paying business-related taxes to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that were due from previous tax years.

Luksh admitted that his conduct resulted in a monetary loss between $100,000 and $250,000. He has agreed to make restitution to the IRS in the amount of $237,146.98.

The charges against Luksh are the result of an investigation by IRS-Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffery St John is prosecuting the case.

The maximum penalty under federal law for this offense is five years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. A sentence following a finding of guilt is determined by the judge after considering the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
