MECHANICSBURG, PA — Four employees from Chester County senior living communities are among 33 recipients selected for nearly $38,000 in professional development scholarships awarded by LeadingAge PA, as providers across Pennsylvania invest in workforce development amid growing demand for aging services.
The 2026 Professional Development Scholarship Program supports employees pursuing degrees, certifications, and continuing education in fields ranging from nursing and clinical care to administration, social work, and food service, the organization said.
Chester County recipients include Leandro Aquino of Simpson Meadows, Joshua Booker and Faith Marie Owen of Tel Hai Retirement Community, and Mary Moreno of Kendal-Crosslands Communities.
LeadingAge PA awarded 33 scholarships totaling nearly $38,000 through a competitive selection process that evaluated applicants based on their commitment to aging services, educational goals, and long-term career potential.
“A strong aging services workforce begins with investing in the people who have chosen this field as their calling,” said Garry Pezzano, president and chief executive officer of LeadingAge PA. “These scholarships help dedicated professionals expand their knowledge, strengthen their skills, and pursue new career opportunities while continuing to enhance the quality of care and services provided to older adults.”
Recipients were selected by a task force of LeadingAge PA members and staff. Applicants were required to be enrolled in or accepted to educational programs related to aging services professions.
The scholarships come as senior living providers and long-term care organizations continue to face workforce shortages and increasing demand for qualified staff as Pennsylvania’s population ages.
“Each of these recipients represents the future of aging services,” said Erin McDermott. “By supporting their educational goals, we are helping to build a stronger, more prepared workforce that can meet the evolving needs of older adults across Pennsylvania.”
Scholarship recipients were drawn from organizations in 11 Pennsylvania counties, with Lancaster County receiving the largest number of awards. The program is intended to help member organizations develop talent and create advancement opportunities within the aging services sector.
