ANNVILLE, PA — The Keystone State ChalleNGe Academy (KSCA) is now accepting applications for its next class of cadets, set to begin in January 2025. This program offers a unique opportunity for academically challenged teens to rebuild their educational foundations and develop essential life skills. There is no tuition cost to attend, and meals, housing, uniforms, and school supplies are provided at no charge.

KSCA, established at Fort Indiantown Gap (FTIG) in Lebanon County in July 2022, is part of the National Guard Bureau’s Youth ChalleNGe Program. It aims to give 16- to 18-year-old Pennsylvania residents who are struggling in high school a second chance. Applicants must be drug-free, have no felony convictions, and voluntarily commit to the program.

“This academy continues to graduate exceptional young men and women who are focused and determined to be successful and live a quality, productive life,” said Steve Grossman, KSCA director.

The program spans 17 months, starting with five months of residential training at FTIG, followed by a year of mentorship in their home communities. Cadets focus on eight core components, including Academic Excellence, Physical Fitness, Leadership, Responsible Citizenship, Job Skills, Community Service, Health and Hygiene, and Life Coping Skills. Graduates often earn high school credits, credentials, or a GED.

The KSCA accepts applications year-round and conducts two classes annually, one beginning in mid-July and the other in mid-January. The program is a collaborative effort between the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), the National Guard Bureau, and the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).

For more information on eligibility and the application process, interested individuals can contact the academy via email at RA-MVPACHALLENGE@pa.gov or by calling 717-861-7767 or 717-861-8831.
