JOHNSTOWN, PA — A Johnstown man has been handed a 41-month prison sentence for his role in the crack cocaine trade, marking a significant victory for law enforcement in their ongoing battle against drug distribution. Shawn Howard, 49, of Johnstown, faced the music on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, as United States Senior District Judge Kim R. Gibson laid down the law, following Howard’s conviction for conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute the notorious substance.

The court heard how, between June and July 2021, Howard was deeply involved in a scheme to distribute crack cocaine within the Western District of Pennsylvania. His activities were unveiled through federal wiretaps, which caught him red-handed obtaining and distributing quantities of crack cocaine to others, showcasing the extensive measures taken by authorities to clamp down on drug traffickers.

Assistant United States Attorney Maureen Sheehan-Balchon spearheaded the prosecution, ensuring that Howard’s illicit activities did not go unpunished. The case stands as a testament to the relentless pursuit of justice by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The successful prosecution of Howard is the culmination of a wide-ranging investigation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Laurel Highlands Resident Agency and Homeland Security Investigations. This collaborative effort saw an unprecedented coalition of federal and state agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation, and numerous local law enforcement bodies, joining forces to dismantle Howard’s operation.

United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan praised the cooperation and dedication of all agencies involved, highlighting the importance of such partnerships in tackling the scourge of drug trafficking that plagues communities across the nation.
