Honduran National Indicted for Illegal Reentry into the United States

US Department of Justice

HARRISBURG, PA — A federal grand jury indicted 24-year-old Honduran national Doanin Reyes-Diaz on Wednesday for allegedly reentering the United States illegally after a previous deportation, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam stated that the indictment accuses Reyes-Diaz of having been previously deported from the United States on September 3, 2019, through Brownsville, Texas. Allegedly, Reyes-Diaz was later found in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, on March 16, 2024, without having secured the legal authorization required for reentry into the country.

The case, under the scrutiny of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations, highlights the ongoing enforcement efforts against illegal reentry, a federal offense that carries significant penalties. Assistant United States Attorney Stephen Dukes is leading the prosecution, underscoring the legal proceedings initiated to address such immigration violations.

Under federal law, the offense of illegal reentry by a previously deported alien can result in up to two years of imprisonment, in addition to a term of supervised release and possible fines. Sentencing, pending a guilty finding, would be determined by a judge based on federal statutes and sentencing guidelines designed to ensure just and proportionate penalties.

It is important to remember that an indictment is merely a formal charge that a person has committed a crime. Reyes-Diaz, like all individuals facing criminal allegations, is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
