Gaming Revenue Jumps 11.6% in January

HARRISBURG, PA — Pennsylvania’s gambling industry generated $590,644,755 in revenue in January 2026, an 11.64% increase over January 2025, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board regulates 17 land-based casinos, online casino games, retail and online sports wagering, video gaming terminals, and fantasy contests.

Online Gaming Sets Record

Internet casino-style gaming, commonly known as iGaming, generated a record $249,301,331 in gross revenue in January 2026, an 18.62% increase from January 2025.

That total includes online slot-style games, online table games, and online poker. Tax revenue from iGaming reached $113,918,351 for the month.

Online slot revenue alone totaled $194,825,533, up 22.81% year over year, while online table games increased 6.20%. Online poker revenue declined 3.62%.

Sports Wagering Revenue Surges

Sports wagering revenue rose sharply despite lower overall betting volume.

The total amount wagered, known as the “handle,” was $782,423,791 in January 2026, down 10.39% from January 2025. However, taxable sports wagering revenue increased 38.63% to $71,393,613.

Tax revenue from sports wagering totaled $25,701,701.

Retail Casinos Show Modest Growth

Revenue from retail slot machines at casinos reached $189,098,891 in January, a 0.67% increase compared with January 2025. The number of slot machines in operation declined slightly to 24,161 from 24,388 a year earlier.

Retail table games generated $75,781,693, up 2.80% year over year. Tax revenue from slot machines totaled $95,571,123, while table games generated $12,836,616 in tax revenue.

Among individual properties, Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course reported $111,457,576 in total January revenue, a 20.18% increase from the prior year. Valley Forge Casino Resort reported $105,793,121, up 8.18%. Presque Isle Downs and Casino posted one of the largest percentage increases at 56.76%.

Video Gaming Terminals and Fantasy Contests

Video gaming terminals, or VGTs — slot-style machines located at qualified truck stops — generated $3,193,118 in January, up 0.56% year over year. Tax revenue from VGT play totaled $1,660,421.

Fantasy contests revenue declined 29.92% to $1,876,110. Tax revenue from fantasy contests totaled $281,416.

Statewide Impact

In 2025, casinos and other gaming regulated by the board generated $2.98 billion in tax revenue and fees, according to the agency.
