SCRANTON, PA — A 23-year-old federal inmate, Xyvaion Lawrence, has been sentenced to an additional 27 months behind bars. United States District Court Judge Malachy E. Mannion handed down the sentence on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at FCI Schuylkill, in Minersville, Pennsylvania, where Lawrence is currently incarcerated.

The charge against Lawrence was for possession of contraband in prison, a serious offense that breaches the strict regulations of prison facilities. United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam detailed the specifics of the case, explaining that Lawrence was found in possession of a homemade 6-inch knife, often referred to as a “shank,” in November 2022. The weapon was discovered hidden in the waistband of Lawrence’s pants by a vigilant correctional officer.

The successful prosecution of this case is credited to the joint efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Special Investigative Services of the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Assistant U.S. Attorney Luisa Honora Berti led the prosecution, resulting in this significant sentence.
