HARRISBURG, PA — AARP is holding fraud prevention events across Pennsylvania throughout April as part of its national Fraud Prevention Month campaign aimed at helping residents identify and avoid scams.
The initiative includes local and national events such as document shredding days, “Scam Jam” workshops, and educational programs designed to provide practical steps to reduce fraud risk.
AARP Pennsylvania State Director Bill Johnston-Walsh said the effort is intended to address rising fraud activity.
“Criminals are relentless, and every day they are stealing from Pennsylvanians,” Johnston-Walsh said.
In Pennsylvania, scheduled events include community shred days in the Pittsburgh and Philadelphia regions, Scam Jam workshops in Lancaster and the Lehigh Valley, an online AARP Live Fraud Prevention broadcast on April 15 at 7:30 p.m., and a national tele-town hall on April 30 at 1 p.m.
Additional information on local events is available at https://www.aarp.org/states/pennsylvania/fraud-prevention-month-comes-to-pennsylvania.html.
AARP is also promoting resources through its Fraud Watch Network, which offers a helpline at 877-908-3360, fraud alerts, and tools to track scam activity.
The program, launched in 2013, provides education and support to help individuals identify fraud and protect financial and personal information.
AARP is a nonprofit organization representing Americans age 50 and older, with programs focused on financial security, health, and community support.
