HARRISBURG, PA — More than 100,000 Pennsylvania residents are set to receive unclaimed property payments totaling nearly $23 million as part of the state’s Money Match program, officials announced.

What This Means for You

  • You may receive a check automatically if you’re owed $500 or less
  • No application is required for eligible single-owner claims
  • Additional unclaimed funds may still require a manual search and claim

The payments, each valued at up to $500, are being automatically issued to eligible residents without requiring them to file a claim, according to the Pennsylvania Treasury.

How the Program Works

The Money Match program allows the state to return certain unclaimed property — such as dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, or forgotten insurance payments — directly to verified owners.

Under the program, only single-owner claims valued at $500 or less are eligible for automatic payment. Claims exceeding that amount or involving multiple owners still require individuals to file documentation with the state.

Treasurer Stacy Garrity said the program is intended to simplify the process of returning money to residents.

“This is your money, and we’ve made it easier than ever to get it back into your hands safely and quickly,” Garrity said.

Scope of Unclaimed Property

State officials estimate that more than one in ten Pennsylvanians is owed a portion of the roughly $5 billion in unclaimed property currently held by the Treasury.

The average claim exceeds $1,000, meaning many residents may still need to search for additional funds not covered under the automatic payment program.

Program Background and Next Steps

The Money Match program was created under Act 81 of 2024, which passed unanimously in the state House and Senate.

Officials said residents receiving checks should review and cash them promptly. Those who believe they received a payment in error can contact the Treasury for assistance.

Residents can also search for additional unclaimed property at patreasury.gov/unclaimed-property.
