WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Postal Service will issue its ninth Hanukkah stamp Sept. 29, extending the agency’s series commemorating the eight-day Jewish holiday ahead of its Dec. 4 start this year.
Postmaster General David Steiner will dedicate the stamp during a first-day-of-issue ceremony at 11 a.m. Central at Touro Synagogue, 4238 St. Charles Ave. in New Orleans. The event is free and open to the public.
The new Forever stamp features artwork by illustrator Lisa Perrin and was designed by USPS art director Antonio Alcala. Its central image is a dark blue dreidel bearing rust-colored Hebrew letters against a turquoise background, surrounded by floral and foliage elements.
USPS will sell the stamp in panes of 20. As a Forever stamp, its value will remain equivalent to the prevailing First-Class Mail 1-ounce rate.
The release continues a Postal Service series recognizing Hanukkah, which begins on the 25th day of Kislev on the Hebrew calendar. In 2026, the holiday begins at sundown Friday, Dec. 4.
Hanukkah commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem and the tradition of a small quantity of oil lasting eight days. Observances commonly include lighting the menorah, singing and eating foods fried in oil, including latkes and sufganiyot.
