WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Mint has unveiled designs for three 2027 commemorative coins honoring working dogs, with surcharges from the program intended to support America’s VetDogs and its service-dog programs for veterans and first responders with disabilities.
The Working Dogs Commemorative Coin Program will include a $5 gold coin, a $1 silver coin, and a half-dollar clad coin. The designs were presented during a ceremony at the White House by representatives of the Mint, America’s VetDogs and the Guide Dog Foundation.
Authorized under Public Law 118-109, the program recognizes working dogs used in military and police service as well as guide, service and therapy roles.
The coins are intended to reflect the range of tasks performed by trained dogs in detection, national defense, law enforcement, disability assistance, therapy and recovery.
“Commemorative coins tell America’s story, and the story of our nation’s working dogs is one of extraordinary service and sacrifice,” Mint Director Paul Hollis stated.
The program also directs attention to the handlers and people who rely on working dogs, including veterans, first responders and individuals with disabilities.
John Miller, president and chief executive officer of the Guide Dog Foundation and America’s VetDogs, stated that proceeds from the program will help America’s VetDogs provide service dogs at no cost to veterans and first responders with disabilities.
“For the veterans and first responders with disabilities we serve, a service dog can restore independence, confidence, and connection,” Miller stated.
The Mint has not yet provided an on-sale date. Timing will be published as part of its 2027 Product Schedule.
