WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Mint will begin selling a one-ounce Calvin Coolidge Presidential Silver Medal for $164 on Sept. 3, extending its presidential medal series with a 99.9% silver issue honoring the nation’s 30th president.
Orders will open at noon EDT. Each medal will be encapsulated and packaged in a presentation case with a certificate of authenticity, according to the Mint.
The medal contains one troy ounce of 99.9% fine silver and measures 1.598 inches in diameter. It has a matte finish and plain edge, with no mint or privy mark.
The obverse depicts a bust of Coolidge surrounded by the inscription “CALVIN COOLIDGE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.”
The reverse, bordered by a stylized laurel wreath, depicts a seated female figure holding fasces, an eagle above a U.S. shield and a cornucopia. Its inscriptions reference Coolidge’s inaugurations on Aug. 3, 1923, and March 4, 1925, along with the year 1928.
John Ray Sinnock, who served as chief engraver of the U.S. Mint from 1925 until 1947, designed both sides.
Coolidge became president on Aug. 3, 1923, following the death of President Warren G. Harding and served until March 4, 1929. He previously served as Harding’s vice president from 1921 to 1923.
The $164 product is a medal rather than legal-tender coinage and carries no denomination.
