WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Mint has unveiled a 2026 $1 coin featuring President Donald J. Trump as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary coin program, with rolls and bags of the Philadelphia-minted coin expected to become available later this year.
The coin is authorized under the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020, which permits the Treasury secretary to mint and issue a new $1 coin for one year beginning Jan. 1, 2026, to commemorate the U.S. Semiquincentennial.
The obverse features a portrait of Trump accompanied by the inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “1776 ~ 2026.” U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna designed the portrait based on an official White House photograph by Daniel Torok.
The reverse uses the Presidential Seal, depicting an eagle holding an olive branch and arrows, with a shield on its breast and an “E PLURIBUS UNUM” banner in its beak. The shield carries the number “250” to mark the anniversary.
“UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR” also appear on the reverse, which was designed and sculpted by former Mint Chief Engraver Frank Gasparro.
Mint Director Paul Hollis characterized the designs as representing “America’s past, present and future” while commemorating the Semiquincentennial.
The Mint expects numismatic product options consisting of $1 coin rolls and bags to go on sale in late fall 2026. The release provided no pricing information.
The circulating-finish coin will be produced at the Philadelphia Mint without a mint mark or privy mark.
The coin weighs 8.10 grams and measures 26.49 millimeters in diameter and 2 millimeters thick. Its composition is 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, and it will have a plain edge.
