WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Mint will begin selling a limited-edition 1804 Silver Dollar-inspired gold coin and silver medal set on August 27, capping production at 15,000 and restricting purchases to one set per household during the first 24 hours.
Sales open at noon Eastern time for the fourth installment in the Mint’s five-part series commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence.
Each set includes a one-ounce, 24-karat gold coin struck at the West Point Mint and a one-ounce medal containing 99.9% fine silver produced at the Philadelphia Mint.
The set carries product code 26BM4. Pricing will follow the Mint’s established pricing table for one-ounce gold coin and one-ounce silver medal sets.
The high-relief gold coin recreates the design of the 1804 Silver Dollar, with a draped bust of Liberty facing right, her hair tied with a ribbon and surrounded by 13 stars.
The obverse includes the inscriptions “LIBERTY” and “1804,” along with a Liberty Bell privy mark bearing the numeral “250.”
The reverse features an eagle with raised wings and a U.S. shield on its breast, holding a scroll inscribed “E PLURIBUS UNUM” in its beak.
The eagle carries 13 arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other beneath clouds and 13 stars. The inscription “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” surrounds the design.
The coin’s edge bears the denomination “HUNDRED CENTS ONE DOLLAR OR UNIT,” consistent with the original design.
The Best of the Mint series pairs reissued historic designs in gold with silver medals featuring contemporary artwork inspired by the companion coins.
The Mint selected five designs from an initial list of 21 historic coins following public input and expert recommendations.
The remaining designs are the 1916 Mercury Dime, the 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter Dollar, the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar, and the 1907 Saint-Gaudens High Relief $20 Gold Coin.
