SBA Launches Freedom 250 Program to Engage Small Businesses

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Small Business Administration has launched a nationwide initiative encouraging small businesses to participate in events tied to America’s 250th anniversary, as the agency seeks to highlight entrepreneurship and economic growth ahead of the 2026 semiquincentennial celebration.

The SBA this week introduced its Freedom 250 Small Business Pledge, inviting business owners to formally join the agency’s broader Freedom 250 campaign and receive recognition for participating in anniversary-related activities.

Businesses that sign the pledge will receive an official Freedom 250 certificate from the SBA and be recognized as participants in the national observance marking 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The initiative also seeks to connect participating businesses through a national network focused on entrepreneurship, job creation, and economic development.

SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler framed the program as part of the agency’s effort to spotlight the role small businesses have played in the nation’s economic development.

“For 250 years, America’s small businesses have embodied the ingenuity, grit, tenacity, and know-how” that have helped drive the U.S. economy, Loeffler stated.

The Freedom 250 campaign comes as federal agencies, states, municipalities, and private organizations prepare programming tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026.

According to the SBA, participating businesses will be recognized for supporting free enterprise, innovation, and community development. The agency also plans additional events and initiatives connected to the anniversary celebration.

The SBA linked the launch to broader economic policies promoted by the Trump administration, including tax policy, deregulation efforts, trade measures, and domestic manufacturing initiatives.

The agency cited recent business formation and employment data as evidence of continued small-business activity, noting that more than 560,000 jobs were created over the past three months.
