IRS Expands Online Tax Tools for Businesses

Internal Revenue Service

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Internal Revenue Service has expanded its Business Tax Account platform with additional digital notices, payment options and account-management tools, widening the agency’s push to move more federal tax interactions for eligible businesses and organizations online.

The additions allow users to access a larger collection of IRS notices, make payments toward existing installment agreements and submit Offer in Compromise payments for tax debts proposed to be settled for less than the full amount owed.

Designated officials can also download Notice CP575, which verifies a business’s Employer Identification Number. The document can be used instead of Letter 147C for EIN verification at banks and financial institutions, according to the IRS.

Among the digital notices recently added to the platform are CP081B, which informs taxpayers that the IRS may have a refund for them; CP211A, approving an extension of time to file; and CP134R, concerning a federal tax deposit discrepancy resulting in a refund.

“By expanding online self-service options, BTA makes it easier for eligible businesses and organizations to manage their federal tax obligations securely and conveniently online without making a phone call or traveling to a physical office,” IRS Chief Executive Officer Frank J. Bisignano said.

Certain individual partners and shareholders can also use the system if they have a Social Security number or individual taxpayer identification number and a Schedule K-1 on file. The IRS currently supports K-1 records for partners for tax years 2012 through 2023 and shareholders for tax years 2006 through 2023.
