WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has announced the distribution of more than $126 million in refunds to players of the popular video game Fortnite who were charged for unwanted purchases. This refund process follows the FTC’s settlement with Epic Games, the game’s developer, over allegations of deceptive billing practices.

Epic Games agreed to pay $245 million in 2023 to resolve FTC claims that the company used design features in Fortnite to trick players into making unintended in-game purchases. According to the FTC, these practices resulted in players, many of them minors, being charged without consent.

The FTC is also reopening the claims process for Fortnite players and their parents or guardians to submit additional claims. Eligible consumers who have not yet filed can submit a claim by July 9, 2025. To submit a claim, visit www.ftc.gov/fortnite.

The new round of refunds, which targets consumers with valid claims, includes 969,173 payments processed on June 25 and June 26. These payouts include checks and PayPal transfers, determined by recipients’ selected payment methods. Consumers receiving checks are advised to cash them within 90 days, while PayPal recipients must redeem their payments within 30 days.

The FTC previously issued $72 million in refunds to 629,344 consumers in December 2024, bringing the total amount refunded to nearly $200 million.
