WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that, in collaboration with Wiers Farm, Inc. and R.S. Hanline Co Inc.,  ALDI Inc. has declared a recall of Freshire Farms jalapenos, green peppers, and green beans sold at ALDI stores. This precautionary measure is due to potential contamination with listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious infections.

The recall affects the following products:

  • Jalapenos, 8 oz. bag, UPC Code 4099100087680
  • Green Peppers, 16 oz. (3 pack) bag, UPC Code 4099100087598
  • Green Beans, 16 oz. bag, UPC Code 4099100087826

These products were sold in select ALDI stores in Kentucky, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, pregnant women, newborns, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. In pregnant women, listeria infection can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or life-threatening infection of the newborn.

ALDI emphasizes the importance of product safety and integrity. They advise customers who have purchased any of the affected items to discard them immediately or return them to their local store for a full refund.

For additional information or concerns, customers can contact R.S. Hanline Co Inc. at 1-888-484-4834, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The FDA and ALDI are working together to ensure that this recall is effective and that consumers are informed about the potential risks. The agencies are conducting thorough investigations to prevent any further distribution of contaminated products.
