KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Every school district in America must ensure preparedness for worst-case scenarios, such as an active shooter incident. As part of its ongoing commitment to emergency preparedness, the Kennett Consolidated School District (KCSD) announced it will be conducting an Active Shooter Exercise. On Thursday, August 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Kennett High School (KHS) campus and KHS Legacy Fields will be closed.

The KCSD Active Shooter Exercise is designed to test the District’s emergency procedures in a controlled environment. By partnering with public safety organizations, including the Chester County Department of Emergency Services, local police departments, and fire companies, KCSD can assess its plans and identify potential weaknesses. This exercise will allow KCSD to act quickly and confidently in the event of a real emergency, saving lives.

The KCSD Active Shooter Exercise is a comprehensive simulation that will involve KCSD administrators and select staff. By including key stakeholders, KCSD can ensure that everyone is aware of their role in an emergency and can work effectively together. “We are appreciative of the relationships which have been built with KCSD administrators and staff,” said Kennett Square Police Chief William Holdsworth. “The dedication and teamwork displayed by everyone involved have been remarkable.”

“Our District is especially proud of our partnership with public safety partners,” said KCSD Superintendent Dr. Dusty Blakey. “In the event of a real emergency, our ability to act quickly and confidently will save lives.”

No school activities will be in session for students during this exercise, ensuring that the campus is entirely closed to the public. The exercise will not impact the surrounding area’s daily activities but will provide an opportunity for public safety organizations to practice emergency procedures.
