JENNERSVILLE, PA — A long-awaited milestone was reached Friday as state and local leaders joined ChristianaCare officials for the ribbon-cutting of a new hospital and emergency room in Jennersville, marking the return of vital medical services to southern Chester County.

State Representative John Lawrence (R-Chester), who led efforts to restore emergency care following the 2021 closure of the previous hospital, called the opening “an incredible milestone.” Addressing several hundred attendees, including township officials, local business leaders, and contractors, Lawrence emphasized the years of advocacy and collaboration that led to the facility’s rebirth.

“For the past several years, my number one priority has been bringing emergency room and hospital care back to Jennersville,” said Lawrence. “Working together with local, county, state, and federal officials, and the leadership team at ChristianaCare, today we celebrate an incredible milestone for Southern Chester County with the opening of a brand-new hospital with a brand-new emergency room to serve our community.”

After Tower Health ceased operations at the site, Lawrence initiated discussions with ChristianaCare, eventually prompting the nonprofit to purchase the property in June 2022. Rather than reopen the outdated hospital, ChristianaCare chose to completely reconstruct a modern facility within the existing building shell.

“Shortly after the hospital closed at the end of 2021, I organized a meeting with key leaders at ChristianaCare and then-Secretary of Health Keara Klinepeter,” added Lawrence. “We met just down the road from where we are standing today to talk about what it would take to bring hospital care and an ER back to this area. Today, we celebrate the fruition of the seeds planted at those early meetings – a state-of-the-art health care facility that will serve our community for the next generation.”

The result is a fully rebuilt, state-of-the-art hospital and emergency department designed to serve the region’s growing healthcare needs.

“I am very grateful to the entire leadership team at ChristianaCare, who have been some of the most kind and professional people I have had the pleasure of working with,” said Lawrence. “On behalf of a grateful community, thank you ChristianaCare for investing in West Grove, and thank you for your commitment to Southern Chester County.”

The reopening is being hailed as a major step forward for access to care in the region, where residents have gone more than two years without a nearby emergency facility.
