Willistown Church Expansion Faces October 28 Zoning Hearing

Willistown Township

WILLISTOWN TWP, PA — St. Thomas Mar Thoma Church of Delaware Valley is seeking zoning approval to renovate and expand its building at 130 Grubb Road in Willistown Township, a proposal that would modify a special exception granted nearly two decades ago for religious use of the residentially zoned property.

The Willistown Township Zoning Hearing Board will consider the application Wednesday, October 28, at 7 p.m. at the township offices, 688 Sugartown Road, Malvern.

The church filed its application September 8, requesting a special exception under Section 139-126.E of the township’s zoning ordinance, which governs extensions or changes to previously approved uses.

The property is located in the RA Residence District, where the church’s religious use was authorized through a special exception approved by the Zoning Hearing Board on February 28, 2007.

The new application, designated Z-10-26, seeks permission to extend that approved use through renovations and an expansion of the existing building.

According to the township’s application tracker, the Willistown Township Planning Commission recommends the proposal.

That recommendation does not constitute final zoning approval. The Zoning Hearing Board must determine whether the requested expansion satisfies the applicable ordinance requirements.

The application also seeks any additional zoning relief that may be necessary for the proposed improvements.

The public hearing will provide an opportunity for the board to review the request before deciding whether to authorize the changes.

Copies of the application are available for public inspection at the township offices during regular business hours.
