WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Senate has advanced the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a sweeping measure aimed at extending tax cuts, strengthening border security, and boosting national defense — a legislative package that Pennsylvania Senator Dave McCormick (R-PA) called a major win for working families and the state’s economy.

McCormick, a strong supporter of the bill, emphasized that it would lock in tax relief for millions of Pennsylvania families by making permanent provisions from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. According to McCormick, the move would save the average Pennsylvania family around $2,500 each year, while also exempting tips and overtime pay from federal taxes.

“I am proud to support this bill because it would deliver continued tax relief to millions of Pennsylvania families and prevent the largest tax increase in American history,” McCormick said. “This bill also delivers on many of the promises that both President Trump and I made — to secure our nation’s border and bolster our national defense to keep Americans safe, and to unleash American energy potential and lower costs for consumers.”

The legislation includes an increase to the Child Tax Credit, permanently doubles the standard deduction, and solidifies the Employer Paid Family and Medical Leave tax credit. Additionally, it introduces new provisions to support school choice initiatives.

Beyond tax policy, the bill directs significant funding toward border security, law enforcement, and defense projects — areas McCormick highlighted as critical for national safety and economic stability. The legislation also includes measures aimed at expanding domestic energy production, a move he argued will reduce costs for consumers and strengthen Pennsylvania’s energy sector.

“No bill is perfect, but these provisions will make a real difference in the lives of people working hard to make ends meet and raise their families across the Commonwealth,” McCormick said. “I also believe that the historic investments in the border, law enforcement, and defense will benefit all Pennsylvanians in the coming years, as will the important provisions that will unleash Pennsylvania energy.”

While the bill still requires passage in the House before it can reach the president’s desk, McCormick expressed optimism about its momentum. “There’s still work to be done to get this bill to the President’s desk, but I am glad the Senate has moved it forward,” he said.

The legislation, if fully enacted, is positioned to become one of the most consequential economic and security packages in recent years, with wide-ranging impacts on taxpayers, businesses, and communities throughout Pennsylvania and beyond.
