Nearly $1.8M in State Grants Flow to Roads, Sidewalks, and Sewers in Chester Co.

Grants

PAOLI, PA — A fresh infusion of state funding is set to reshape sidewalks, intersections, and underground infrastructure across parts of Chester County, with nearly $1.8 million awarded to projects in the 157th Legislative District.

State Rep. Melissa Shusterman announced the grants, approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, calling the investments critical to public safety and long-term community stability.

The funding is split between two state programs: the Multimodal Transportation Fund, which supports road, pedestrian, and transit improvements, and the PA Small Water and Sewer program, which helps municipalities modernize aging utility systems.

Through the Multimodal Transportation Fund, Easttown Township received $996,000 to construct new sidewalks, ADA-compliant ramps, and crosswalks around Beaumont Elementary School and Hilltop Park, a project aimed at improving pedestrian safety in a heavily traveled area. Schuylkill Township was awarded $124,000 for intersection improvements at Pothouse Road and West Bridge Street/Charlestown Road.

Additional grants were awarded under the PA Small Water and Sewer program, including $354,745 to Willistown Township for a West Chester Pike sewer extension and $329,800 to Schuylkill Township for the Jug Hollow Road stormwater improvement project.

“I’m proud to bring back funds to invest in our community for these essential projects,” Shusterman said. She pointed to the Easttown pedestrian safety work as a long-standing priority and emphasized the importance of continued investment in sewer and stormwater systems that residents rely on daily.

Local officials said the projects will help reduce flooding risks, improve accessibility, and enhance safety for students, pedestrians, and drivers, while also supporting economic development by strengthening core infrastructure.

The awards are part of a broader statewide effort to address aging transportation and utility systems as population growth and climate pressures place increasing demands on local infrastructure.
