WEST CHESTER, PA — Over 100 regional business leaders, policymakers, and community members gathered this week for “Economic Crossroads: Where We Are and Where We’re Headed,” a forum on the economic landscape hosted by the Chester County Commissioners, the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry (CCCBI), and the Chester County Economic Development Council (CCEDC).

Keynote speaker Dr. Mark Zandi, Chief Economist at Moody’s Analytics, addressed pressing economic challenges and opportunities, including the future of tariffs, geopolitical shifts, and current trends in interest rates, inflation, and labor markets. The session followed recent concerns tied to the downgrade of the U.S. government’s credit rating, adding urgency to the discussion.

“Dr. Zandi’s advice and wisdom come at a crucial time as we reflect on where our economy is headed,” said Commissioner Josh Maxwell, Chairman of the Chester County Board. He noted the impact of trade policies and tariffs on local businesses and families, emphasizing the need for an economic approach that fosters sustainable growth and market stability.

Dr. Zandi provided insights into how global trade realignments are reshaping supply chains and markets as well as the role of tariffs in U.S. policy, particularly their effects on regional competitiveness. “With trade policy, tariffs, and interest rates top of mind for so many of our businesses, his insights offered clarity and perspective at this critical moment,” said CCCBI President Laura Manion.

Co-sponsored by the CCCBI and the CCEDC, the event highlighted collaboration among Chester County organizations to support informed economic dialogue. “By thoughtfully examining the current state of our economy, we lay the groundwork for better economic planning and outcomes for Chester County and beyond,” added CCEDC President Mike Grigalonis.
