WAYNE, PA — TekniPlex Healthcare is expanding its pharmaceutical materials portfolio around PFAS-free packaging, cleaner dispensing components and flexible drug reservoirs as drugmakers face pressure to protect increasingly sensitive therapies while adapting products for wearable and at-home delivery.
The Wayne-based company will present the technologies at CPHI Milan 2026, running Oct. 6 through Oct. 8, as pharmaceutical and consumer health manufacturers reassess materials including fluoropolymers and talc amid changing regulatory, production and product requirements.
A central part of that strategy is Flexapharm SBC, a high-barrier pharmaceutical film designed for therapies sensitive to moisture and oxygen. TekniPlex positions the material as a PFAS-free alternative to conventional PCTFE-based structures while providing comparable moisture protection and greater oxygen-barrier performance.
The thermoformable film is offered in different coating weights, constructions, substrates and colors, allowing manufacturers to adjust barrier characteristics to individual products. Lower processing and sealing temperatures and improved forming performance are also intended to reduce energy requirements and improve production efficiency.
TekniPlex maintains that the film can reduce material use compared with traditional PCTFE-based structures, potentially lowering transportation, warehousing and storage requirements. Its transparent construction allows product visibility without eliminating the barrier properties required for sensitive formulations.
“Pharmaceutical innovation increasingly requires materials to do more, from protecting highly sensitive therapies to enabling entirely new ways of delivering them,” TekniPlex Chief Executive Officer Brenda Chamulak said.
The company is also extending its materials strategy into consumer health dispensing systems with ClearCycle+ stem gaskets. The FDA-compliant components eliminate the need for talc or silicone surface treatments while providing the non-stick properties required during manufacturing and dispensing.
Wearable drug delivery represents another area of expansion. TekniPlex has developed flexible film reservoirs intended to combine moisture and oxygen protection for sensitive biologics with the formability required for on-body drug-delivery devices.
The thermoformable reservoirs can be configured around different doses and device designs. Their thin, lightweight and break-resistant construction is intended to support smaller wearable devices as more therapies move beyond traditional clinical administration.
TekniPlex is also combining materials, components and drug-delivery capabilities into a broader ophthalmic portfolio. The offering includes high-barrier materials for moisture- and oxygen-sensitive formulations, systems intended to maintain sterility and materials engineered for optical clarity and formulation compatibility.
The strategy positions TekniPlex to supply materials across multiple stages of pharmaceutical and medical-device development, from protecting formulations through their eventual delivery to patients.
TekniPlex Healthcare will exhibit at Stand 11F25 in the Packaging & Drug Delivery zone at CPHI Milan.
