WAYNE, PA — TekniPlex has recognized three healthcare technologies that could reduce manufacturing complexity, improve pharmaceutical packaging recyclability and expand biopharmaceutical production capabilities, highlighting areas the company views as key growth opportunities across global healthcare markets.
The winners of the company’s FY2026 TeknoVation Awards were selected from more than 30 projects submitted across its two business divisions. Entries were evaluated on innovation, business impact, measurable results, scalability and problem-solving, the company stated.
The first-place award went to a proprietary polyvinyl chloride (PVC) compound engineered to operate across sheet and film extrusion, tube extrusion and injection molding using a single material formulation.
According to TekniPlex, the technology could reduce customer qualification work, lower manufacturing costs and shorten product development timelines by eliminating the need for different PVC formulations across multiple production processes.
The project has entered commercialization and is beginning to support customer manufacturing applications.
A recyclable pharmaceutical blister package received second place. The design combines peelable polypropylene lidding with a coextruded polypropylene and cyclic olefin copolymer blister structure, creating a package intended to be recyclable where collection infrastructure exists while maintaining moisture and oxygen barrier performance.
TekniPlex indicated the technology could reduce reliance on aluminum-based laminated packaging as pharmaceutical manufacturers respond to evolving sustainability requirements, including Europe’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation. The company holds a patent on the technology and is conducting customer qualification and commercialization activities.
Third place went to a weldable tubing platform developed for biopharmaceutical fluid-transfer systems.
The styrenic thermoplastic elastomer tubing is designed to provide high clarity, improved pump performance, lower extractables and leachables, stronger welds and more reliable sealing within a single product. TekniPlex stated the platform leverages its vertically integrated materials development and extrusion capabilities to support manufacturing consistency and supply continuity.
The three projects reflect broader healthcare industry priorities, including simplifying manufacturing, improving pharmaceutical packaging sustainability and enhancing materials used in biopharmaceutical production.
TekniPlex stated it will continue investing in materials science, manufacturing processes and product development as it expands technologies for medical device, pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging customers.
