MALVERN, PA — Neuronetics Inc. (NASDAQ: STIM) is integrating its NeuroStar TMS practice-management technology with AdvancedMD’s electronic health record and revenue-cycle platform, creating what the company describes as the first integration between a transcranial magnetic stimulation system and an EHR or EMR.
The integration connects Neuronetics’ TrakStar platform with AdvancedMD, which serves more than 65,000 practitioners across 13,000 independent ambulatory and mental health practices.
The companies are targeting an administrative challenge associated with TMS treatment, which requires clinical and billing coordination across multiple treatment sessions. Documentation, scheduling, claims and authorization functions can otherwise reside in separate systems.
Under the integration, NeuroStar treatment data will flow into AdvancedMD, allowing practices to manage the treatment record alongside scheduling, clinical records and revenue-cycle functions.
The integration will become available in the fourth quarter to NeuroStar providers already using AdvancedMD and to NeuroStar providers that adopt the platform going forward. Both companies plan to make the connection available across their respective customer bases.
Neuronetics President and Chief Executive Officer Dan Reuvers indicated the AdvancedMD integration is intended as the first of additional connections with electronic health record systems.
“We look forward to integrating with additional EHR/EMR platforms in the future,” Reuvers said.
AdvancedMD Chief Marketing Officer Stephanie Cho framed the integration around the operational requirements of maintaining a TMS service line.
“Adding TMS is a clinical decision, but sustaining it is an operational one,” Cho said. “This integration puts the treatment record and the revenue cycle in the same place, helping psychiatric and behavioral health practices more efficiently manage the workflows associated with a TMS program.”
Collaborative Solutions in Psychiatry in Madison, Wisconsin, participated as an early adopter in the pilot program. The multisite practice uses both NeuroStar and AdvancedMD and has offered NeuroStar treatment since 2020.
Sobia Kirmani-Moe, founder of Collaborative Solutions in Psychiatry, said connecting treatment data with the practice’s clinical and billing workflow eliminated duplicate work for staff.
Neuronetics provides NeuroStar TMS technology and operates direct patient care through its Greenbrook network of interventional psychiatry clinics.
