NOTTINGHAM, PA — Herr’s is offering $15,000 in combined prizes to consumers and Philadelphia-area food businesses through the sixth annual Flavored by Philly competition, which opened October 12 and will turn three locally inspired potato chip concepts into products for a public vote in summer 2027.
The Chester County snack manufacturer is accepting flavor submissions through November 2, 2026, inviting consumers to nominate potato chip varieties inspired by restaurants, eateries and food companies throughout the Philadelphia region.
The winning entrant will receive $5,000, while the restaurant or food company associated with the selected flavor will receive $10,000.
The competition returns to its original Local Eats format, which uses regional food businesses as the basis for new potato chip varieties.
A panel of judges will review the submissions and select three finalists after the entry period closes.
Herr’s plans to manufacture and release all three finalist flavors in early summer 2027, allowing consumers to sample the products before voting for the winner.
The public voting period will run for eight weeks. Participants who cast a vote will be entered into weekly drawings for gift baskets containing Herr’s snacks and merchandise, with one winner selected each week.
The contest gives participating food businesses an opportunity to have their products or signature flavors represented in a regional snack brand’s product lineup.
For Herr’s, the competition also provides a way to evaluate consumer interest in new flavors before selecting a winner through public voting.
“In Philadelphia, food isn’t just food. It’s pride, passion, and a topic everyone has an opinion on,” said Ed Herr, executive chairman of the board.
“From neighborhood favorites and local legends to hidden gems, we can’t wait to see what the city will decide are the three undeniably Philly flavors for this year’s contest.”
The sixth-year competition continues Herr’s use of consumer-submitted flavor concepts to develop limited-run products tied to the Philadelphia region’s food industry.
Consumers can submit nominations at https://herrsflavoredbyphilly.com through November 2.
According to the contest rules, participation is limited to legal residents of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland who are at least 18 years old. No purchase is necessary, and the contest is void where prohibited.
